About Us
The Scottish Social Services Learning Network North provides a forum to enable workforce learning and development, which is a key contributor to improving services in order to better meet the needs of service users and carers. We work in partnership with local agencies and stakeholders in the North of Scotland to support social service workforce development at ‘grassroots’ level.
We have agreed national aims and outcomes with the Scottish Government and the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). Our aims support the national ones through facilitating and supporting local structures and ways of working.
The geography of the North of Scotland poses challenges to those in the worforce seeking learning opportunities or to share practice as members of professional networks which may not exist locally. To address this, in 2007 the Learning Network North developed an online portal, in collaboration with the Robert Gordon University, to increase access to learning and to facilitate opportunities for communication and collaborative working across the North of Scotland. This is underpinned by training in online facilitation, which again has been developed and is delivered with the Robert Gordon University.
Vision
The Learning Networks have a unique contribution to make in supporting the workforce learning and development of the social services sector. The Learning Networks are the only bodies funded specifically to enable partnerships; the sharing of knowledge and experience; facilitation of new ways of working and sharing of resources. TheScottish Government and the Scottish Social Services Council’s vision is that the Learning Networks act as catalysts for change in meeting the learning and development needs of the social services sector.
